What's Going On With 4-H?

4-H Camping Program

4-H Junior Camp is open to any child age 9-13 and is held annually at the W.E. Skelton Educational Conference Center at Smith Mountain Lake in Franklin Co.  The overnight camp takes place over 5 days and 4 nights and the fee includes lodging, travel (to and from camp), supplies and a camp t-shirt.  While at camp, these children are active from sun up to sun down.  They will participate in activities such as swimming, performing arts, dance, cheerleading, forensic and computer sciences, soccer, basketball, camp fire activities, and so much more.  You cannot describe an overnight camp experience.  Children will meet peers from others schools and communities.  For more information regarding camp or to become an adult or teen volunteer click here.

4-H Teen Leadership Club (2007-Present)

The 4-H Teen Leadership Club has 15 teen volunteers, 6 parent volunteers, and 1 club leader.  Usually, the members of this club are campers who have gone to camp as a Counselors-In-Training (CIT) and are planning to return the following year as a Teen Counselor Volunteer.  Members of this club attend monthly meetings and receive extensive training before going to camp as a counselor.  Some of the training sessions are overnight so that the teen will have the experience before going to camp.  This program also helps the teen to develop decision making capabilities, along with leadership skills. Involving these teens in various community projects to help develop a sense of positive contribution is also a part of their requirements.
